THE
APT INSTITUTE: A NEW WAY TO APPROACH INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION & GLOBAL
EDUCATION
The APT is an international center offering many
interesting studies for students of different fields. Our
school is centrally located in a XVI century building designed by Vasari. All
classrooms are fully equipped and most of them are air-conditioned. Our school
is already known for its well-prepared programs, professional and courteous
Italian teachers and secretarial staff as well as its altogether pleasant
environment. It is also officially
authorized by the Italian Ministry of Education.
The APT "Italian Culture and Language" section is famous for the high quality
teaching of Italian language and culture.
Once here, our students do not feel isolated in a closed academic environment,
but are encouraged to participate in activities, discussions, seminars, etc.,
experiencing cross-cultural communication and encountering many different points
of view. Students can discuss topics on the culture and people living in
Florence as well as on various intercultural problems. The school also offers
many optional extracurricular activities (guided tours of the city, cooking
courses, seminars, debates, movies etc.)
At
APT students can choose from a rich variety of university level courses
which can be converted into credits valid in the United States. The APT
operates according to high academic standards of competitive American
universities with rigorous courses and curriculum offerings.
GOALS
The main goals of the Institute are:
~ to develop and maintain the highest quality academic programs
~ to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a truly
international experience
~ to heighten students’ awareness of cultural differences and of the
value of every culture focusing on global interdependence in the context of
today's world.
~ to make students feel more at ease when facing new situations.
~ to promote the idea that there is more than one method of
studying, of solving problems, or of carrying out a task and that even though
these methods might be unfamiliar, they may nevertheless bring excellent
results.
~ to develop the students' self-esteem and sense of responsibility.
~ to promote cross-cultural exchange.
~ to favour students’ participation in the life of the city through
meetings, discussions, conferences, concerts, guided tours, field trips etc.
~ to maintain a commitment to the tradition of education as a value
in itself and as a foundation for both life and work.
ACADEMIC STANDARDS
The programs provided by the APT Institute are geared to the
academic standards of excellence required by American colleges and universities.
Credits earned are transferable to many academic institutions in the
United States. A full semester program allows students to earn an average of 16
academic credits, comparable to the credit system of most American colleges and
universities.
